Esper Boel

Dr. Esper Boel, Ph.D., is Corporate Vice President at Novo Nordisk A/S in Denmark and Head of the Biotechnology Unit, which is the company's core facility in the disciplines of molecular biology, recombinant expression of therapeutic proteins in bacterial and mammalian cell systems, cell biology, bioprocess technology and antibody technology. Since 2001, Dr. Boel has been responsible for the establishment and integration of an R&D unit in Beijing, China, which was the first biomedical research unit in China to be established and operated by an international pharmaceutical company. Dr. Boel graduated in 1979 from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, with a biology degree in Plant Physiology and later got his Ph.D. degree from the same University based on a thesis on the biosynthesis and gene structure of the human gastrointestinal peptide hormones, gastrin and pancreatic polypeptide. He has authored more than 70 scientific articles and has worked with Novo Nordisk A/S for more than 25 years.
