His current projects include Dicerna Pharmaceuticals, a second generation RNAi company co-founded by Dr. Fambrough; Ensemble Discovery, which is pioneering DNA-directed synthetic chemistry; Cambrios Technologies, a developer of biologically-inspired electronic materials for the display industry; Xencor, a protein engineering company that engineers antibody Fc regions to enhance potency; and Solstice Neurosciences, a neurology specialty pharmaceutical company. His past investments include RNA interference pioneer Sirna Therapeutics, acquired by Merck for $1.1 billion, and the ultra-high-throughput DNA sequencing equipment company Solexa, acquired by Illumina for $600 million. Prior to Oxford, Dr. Fambrough was a genomic scientist at the Whitehead/MIT Center for Genome Research, which is now known as the Broad Institute. He graduated from Cornell University and obtained his Ph.D. in genetics from the University of California, Berkeley.
